Electrical Safety in the Workplace is an important topic in today’s workplace. Every year, electrical contractors, factory maintenance people and utility linesmen are injured or killed due to contact with electricity or an arc flash explosion.
The NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace was created to address these hazards as well as to develop measures and work practices to help mitigate the dangers of working on and around electricity. In 2008, Canada developed its CSA Z462 Workplace Electrical Safety to build upon and to harmonize with the requirements NFPA 70E.
These standards require employers to implement an electrical safety program to protect these workers.
Failure to implement an Electrical Safety Program can result in huge costs to an employer covering medical, rehabilitation and retraining of injured personnel as well as the cost of litigation and penalties.
